Mental Health First Aid is breaking down barriers and stigma so that together we can learn how to better support one another. Without mental health, there is no health.

The Facts

  • Nearly 1 in 5 in the U.S. lives with a mental illness
  • On average, 130 people die by suicide every day
  • From 1999 to 2019, 841,000 people died from drug overdoses

How do we know MHFA is effective?

  • Studies show that MHFA training reduces stigma, improves knowledge, and increases first-aid actions toward people experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.
  • MHFA is proven to be effective in teaching adults how to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges. Peer-reviewed studies from around the world show that individuals trained in MHFA:
  • Expand their knowledge of signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Can identify appropriate types of professionals and self-help resources for individuals with a mental health or substance use challenge.
  • Have increased confidence in and likelihood to help an individual in distress.
  • Show increased mental wellbeing themselves.

Danielle is an experienced and certified instructor for youth and adult Mental Health First Aid and is eager to work with organizations, schools, and groups to bring this lifesaving education to the masses.

Medication Management

Danielle works closely with adults and teenagers ages 13 years and up, experiencing symptoms such as depression, anxiety, mood swings, disturbed sleep, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, substance use, and other behavior disruptions. Your intake appointment will include a thorough psychological and social assessment. In addition, your medical history, as well as measurements of height/weight and blood pressure/pulse, are taken. In some cases, labs may be ordered if they have not been checked lately, and this may include a recommendation for pharmacogenomic testing.

You will be informed of the diagnosis(es), and along with Danielle, your goals for treatment will be discussed and noted. Options for treatment will be offered, including medication and non-medication therapy, as appropriate. You can expect that your diagnosis(es) and treatment options will be explained and all your questions answered. Danielle loves to teach and will provide education as needed on topics related to sleep, nutrition, and exercise.

What is GeneSight?

The GeneSight Psychotropic test is a genetic test that shows your provider how your genes may affect medication outcomes. The GeneSight test may reveal which medications require dose adjustments, are less likely to work, or have an increased risk of side effects based on your DNA.

GeneSight Clinical Studies

There are seven published peer-reviewed studies showing the clinical validity, clinical utility, and economic utility of the GeneSight Psychotropic test. In the GUIDED study, patients in the GeneSight arm saw a 50% relative improvement in remission rates versus treatment as usual. You can learn more about the clinical evidence supporting the use of the GeneSight Psychotropic test at www.genesight.com/clinical-studies.

Taking the test is easy!

Your DNA sample is collected by swabbing the inside of your cheek. No needles! The sample is sent to the lab for analysis, and test results are returned to your provider 2 days after your sample is received.

Your provider can review the results with you on your next visit and may use them to guide your treatment plan.

What about virtual/telehealth appointments?

Ask about GeneSight at Home, which allows discrete delivery of a sample collection kit right to your doorstep.

Did you know?

More than 95% of patients pay $330 or less for GeneSight testing, and financial assistance is available.

GeneSight can be especially helpful if you are struggling with medications for mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, or ADHD. In fact, fewer than 50% of individuals with depression respond to their first medication.
